About FOUBLA

1- Who we are

A non-for-profit corporation organized exclusively for charitable, scientific, literary and education purposes within the meaning of Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended. FOUBLA aims at publicizing and supporting the “Organization pour l’Harmonization en Afrique du Droit des Affaires (OHADA)” and its uniform statutes.

2- What we do

Our activities include among others, organization of seminars, lectures, conferences, publication of English-language scholarship on OHADA law, organization of social and fundraising events to support and finance these activities, across the United States of America. The purpose of these activities is to the economic development of Africa by contributing to the unification process of a modern business law throughout Africa.

3- Our mission

FOUBLA’s members strongly believe that Africa’s stability and growth lies primarily in a better legal and judicial environment. OHADA provides an improved environment through its modern uniform statutes and its institutions. OHADA’s goal is to create and maintain an environment which will attract more foreign investment, induce intra- and inter-African investments and reduce transaction costs.

4- Current Projects

  • Translation into English of OHADA Uniform Acts, and CCJA arbitration rules, in collaboration with OHADA Permanent Secretary
  • Publication of a book containing commentaries of OHADA Uniform Acts by US academics and legal practitioners, in collaboration with the International Senior Lawyers Projet (“ISLP”)
